The 54th IHA Congress will be held on 18th to 23rd October 2017 in Shanghai, China.
This will be the second time we have hosted the congress. The 2006 IHA Congress, hosted by the CNHA, was held successfully in Shanghai. The meeting not only improved IHA’s visibility in China, but also enhanced the international influence of the CNHA and China’s hardware industry. It promoted the development of the globalization of the China’s hardware industry and brought a series of win-win results. After a lapse of eleven years, the 2017 IHA Congress will draw a lot of attention to the industry; especially since China’s economic development has drawn the global attention already, at the time of the hardware manufacturing industry’s accelerated pace of transformation and upgrading. It will have far-reaching consequences.
We would like to take this opportunity to show China hardware industry’s new charm and new appearance to the world. I am formally inviting our global hardware industry peers and friends and am looking forward to welcoming you to China in 2017. You will get a personal feel for the road to modern development of an ancient civilization.
My colleagues and I will present you with a special 2017 IHA Congress, sharing information and experiences full of opportunity and vitality.
We would like to work together to meet our challenges, share opportunities, seek common development and jointly promote a better future for the world’s hardware industry!
Let’s meet in 2017, in Shanghai China!
President of China Hardware Association
President of the 54th IHA Congress
One of the most important benefits of membership in the IHA is the opportunity to build friendships with business colleagues from around the world. IHA members all generously agree to host fellow IHA visitors to their countries. Travel to IHA member countries provides tremendous opportunities to explore new business ideas and experience how differently other countries have organized their industries. A number of IHA members have taken advantage of this opportunity in recent months. Here are a few examples.
Representatives from the China National Hardware Association have truly globe-trotted in recent months, visiting IHA members in Australia, France, England and the U.S., inviting fellow members to attend the 2017 IHA Congress and to bring delegations along.
During March, Mr. Tim Buchheit, the NRHA international representative to the IHA, and a large independent retailer in southeast Missouri, traveled to Sweden to visit with a candidate for a retail exchange program initiated by IHA. During that trip Mr. Buchheit visited the candidates retail operation.
Also in March, after an IHA Council Meeting at the Cologne Hardware Fair, Jean-Francois Dubost, IHA Chairman and CEO of Quincaillerie-Aixoise, hosted a group of U.S. hardware retailers and spouses for a visit to Mr. Dubost’s businesses in Aix-en-Provence. The group visited Quincaillerie-Aixoise, a large and very modern B2B retail establishment as well as one of Mr. Dubost’s high-end bath showrooms. The group was accompanied by Bill Lee, IHA Secretary General and CEO of the North American Retail Hardware Association.
In May, NRHA returned the favor and hosted Mr. and Mrs. Dubost during their visit to the U.S. During their visit to Indianapolis, Jean-Francois visited the semi-annual Do It Best Hardware wholesale market, where he was able to see a typical cooperative dealer market and about 1,000 vendors offering their products for sale to Do It Best retailers in attendance. He also visited the new headquarters of the NRHA and met staff members, who provided an overview of the association’s services. From there, NRHA CEO Bill Lee, along with two other U.S. retailers and spouses, visited several retailers in Ohio, including Hartville Hardware, the largest hardware store in the U.S. Hartville Hardware has over 300,000 square feet of retail space and includes a 1,800 square foot home built on the sales floor, to demonstrate products for sale at Hartville Hardware. The group also visited Keim Lumber and Lehman’s in Ohio.
Also in May, French IHA members, Pascal Lefebvre and Dominique Tiberghien, both from Group Adeo, visited a number of retailers on the east coast of the U.S. While they were in the U.S. they also visited Aubuchon Hardware, a New England chain of about 115 convenience hardware stores. They were hosted by Will Aubuchon, Aubuchon Hardware’s current CEO and NRHA board member. They visited Aubuchon’s headquarters in Westminster, Massachusetts, Aubuchon Hardware stores and learned about their new omnichannel initiatives.
Several IHA members attended the EDRA conference in Stockholm in June. Jean-Francois Dubost, Goran Sundstrom and Tim Buchheit met together during their time at this conference.
All IHA members welcome fellow IHA members to visit their country and stand ready to help host a visit. These visits are both rewarding and enjoyable for all involved. Begin planning your trip today!
